Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo revealed some interesting news and information during his pregame press conference this morning.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is suffering from an injury to his left calf and has to live from day to day. Lovullo, who was taken out of the game Sunday after fielding a ground ball, had originally said Gurriel would get an MRI of his calf Monday morning. However, that had not happened as of Monday morning. He was being examined when Lovullo spoke.
Gurriel will definitely travel with the team to San Francisco after Monday’s game. He can still have the imaging done Tuesday morning if needed. Lovullo said they have a very good system in San Francisco and it’s the equivalent of here in Phoenix.
Christian Walker (slash) was originally scheduled to play in another continuation game at Salt River Fields, but he was at the stadium on Monday as the team prepared to travel to San Francisco. “He’s here to have a good day’s work, I think there was a little change of plans. Read the lines on that however you will.”
Walker will also be on the plane to San Francisco, but it has not yet been determined what day his first game after returning will be.
Ketel Marte (high ankle sprain): Lovullo said Marte’s return during the road trip was “a definite possibility,” but did not specify which series. The D-backs play the Giants in San Francisco Tuesday through Thursday, then head to Houston to play the Astros Friday through Sunday.
Jordan Lawlar (paralyze) is about to face the Triple-A Reno Aces in the next week or two. Lovullo said there’s a good chance Lawlar will play winter ball in the offseason to fill in for the missing at-bats. He didn’t specify which winter league, but it won’t be the Arizona Fall League.
Drey Jameson (Tommy John operation) has thrown bullpen sessions every Tuesday and Friday, 11 in total. He was in a “de-load” period and took a week off. He will resume his bullpen session schedule on Tuesday. Jameson could pitch in the Arizona Fall League this year, Lovullo said.
