DNC 2024: DJ Cassidy’s musical appeal to sing every song

DNC 2024: DJ Cassidy’s musical appeal to sing every song

(CNN) — There was a great atmosphere at the ceremonial roll call vote at the Democratic Party Convention on Tuesday.

Hosted by DJ Cassidy, each delegation selected songs as they cast their ceremonial vote for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

Songs played included “Good Luck, Babe!” by Chappell Roan for Missouri, the state Roan is from, “Sirius” by the Alan Parsons Project – also affectionately known as the Chicago Bulls theme song – for Illinois, and “I’m Shipping up to Boston” by the Dropkick Murphys for, you guessed it, Massachusetts.

There was even a cameo by rapper Lil Jon, who represented Georgia’s delegation with an energetic performance of his song “Get Low,” where the lyric changed from “To the window, to the wall” to “VP Harris, Governor Walz.”

DJ Cassidy kept the nationwide party going for over an hour and the musical mashup already inspired a Spotify playlist.

The Grammy-nominated DJ has been hired by former President Barack Obama for both of his inaugurations and his and Michelle Obama’s 50th birthday parties. He has also DJed at parties and events for Oprah Winfrey, Jay-Z, Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez, to name a few.

“Ladies and gentlemen, today is a day of celebration,” DJ Cassidy said from the convention stage. “A day of celebration for democracy. A day of celebration for freedom. A day of celebration for the future. Chicago, are you ready?”
