Little change in store for Pine River-Backus students – Pine and Lakes Echo Journal

PINE RIVER – Pine River-Backus School students arriving on the first day, Tuesday, Sept. 3, will find the school largely as they left it in May, except for a few new faces.

In recent years, it has not been uncommon for students to arrive to find a whole new set of teachers. This year, however, the teaching staff remained largely the same, with only one new high school science teacher, Kora Just, and a second-grade teacher, Kiersten Kralovetz.

The district will also get a new dean of students, John Jacobson, and a new director of buildings and grounds, Jim Leuer.

Otherwise, students may notice further rebranding efforts designed to promote Tiger pride.

“We’ve continued with the branding elements, with the new look of the Great Hall, which connects the two buildings in front of the common area, which now has a new branded look,” said Jonathan Clark, Superintendent. “Our music room has been completely redone – it looks exciting there too.”

Students will likely notice a return to the new schedule format first introduced last spring.

“It’s exciting,” Clark said. “We’re making sure everything is up and running and that there’s a really easy transition for kids and teachers to log in and schedule lessons. We’re excited to start the 2024 school year. It’s going to be great.”
