Twin sisters Scarlett and Eliza Humphrey finished sixth and seventh respectively in the SM11 women’s 200m individual medley, with Eliza setting a personal best. Here’s what they had to say when speaking to Channel 4:

Firstly, Scarlett Humphrey, oin competition with Sister Eliza: “I enjoyed it, it was great fun. It was nice to ride side by side. When you’ve raced before, you’re less nervous – the first time in front of the crowd was pretty nerve-wracking.”

On dealing with nervousness, she added: “I’m getting used to it now and trying to see it as another race to take the pressure off. It took me a while to get used to it, it’s such a big place in the village with so many people, but I’ve got used to it.

“We have developed a routine and a pattern and I am really enjoying the experience. My racing performance is getting better as I get more used to the village and the surroundings.”

Eliza Humphrey said: “It was nice, it felt good. We had to work on some things from the heats and it obviously worked. I stayed under three minutes, which is something I’ve wanted to achieve for some time.

“Missing Manchester (World Championships) last year was disappointing as I was watching everyone else racing. I worked really hard in the lead up to the trials and to be competing here is a dream come true. It’s really nice to be back on the world stage and competing against world class athletes.”

About the competition with her sister Scarlett: “We were next to each other on the tracks, which was really cool. You want to work hard in training so you can beat each other in the races.

“It’s special because we know that we support each other and when we have questions, we find answers for each other.”
