Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will be released just in time for Halloween.
The sequel series is scheduled to premiere on Disney Channel on October 29 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, the network announced Thursday. The first eight episodes will be available the next day on Disney+ and Disney Channel On Demand.
It was also announced that former Disney Channel colleagues Raven-Symoné and Danielle Fishel will direct episodes of the first season.
Earlier this month, viewers got a first taste of the upcoming series in a first-look video that aired during the Disney Channel premiere of Descendants – The Rise of Red.
The video features David Henrie and Selena Gomez back on set as Justin and Alex Russo, as well as newcomers Janice LeAnn Brown (as Billie), Alkaio Thiele (as Roman Russo), Max Matenko (as Milo Russo), Taylor Cora (as Winter), and Mimi Gianopulos (as Giada Russo).
At this point, Gomez is expected to guest star in the first episode only, with Henrie and the rest of the cast set to play the main roles.
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place follows adult Justin Russo, who has chosen to live a normal, mortal life with his family, Giada, Roman, and Milo. When Justin’s sister Alex brings Billie home and asks for help, Justin realizes he must brush up on his magical skills to mentor the apprentice wizard while also managing his everyday duties – and securing the future of the wizarding world.
Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas serve as writers and executive producers, along with executive producers Gary Marsh, Jonas Agin, Gomez and Henrie. Andy Fickman directed and executive produced the pilot and will direct multiple episodes. Wizards of Waverly Place was created by Todd Greenwald.
