The first US LBM Coaches Poll of the regular season is out after some unexpected results in Week 1 and the top 5 looks a little different than the preseason version.

Georgia easily retains the No. 1 spot. The Bulldogs were voted No. 1 by 52 of the 55 judges after a dominant opening win over Clemson. Ohio State, which steamrolled Akron in its season debut, remains No. 2 with three first-place votes. Texas moves up to No. 3 and secures the last first-place finisher after defeating Colorado State. Alabama also moves up one spot and is now No. 4.

The battle for fifth place is tight. This week we’re off to Mississippi, which is a single poll point ahead of Oregon. The Ducks, who were ranked third last season, slipped to sixth after a tough time beating Idaho. Notre Dame, ranked seventh, is now just one point behind Oregon after a road win at Texas A&M, then ranked 20th.

Penn State and Michigan swap places, with the Nittany Lions just ahead at No. 8. Missouri moves up one spot to grab the No. 10 spot vacated by Florida State. The Seminoles are out of the poll entirely after two losses to ACC opponents.

The biggest climber of the week is Southern California. The Trojans climbed nine spots from the preseason rankings to 14th after beating LSU. Miami (Florida) moved up four spots to 15th.

Louisville (No. 24) and Washington (No. 25) are entering the poll. Florida State and Texas A&M are the dropouts.
